Every year, the people of Assam suffer huge losses in the agriculture sector. 2017 has also been the same. Due to heavy rainfall, Assam is again affected by floods. Nearly 15 lakh people are affected in 25 districts of this state.
According to a report by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 3 people have so far lost their lives in various flood related incidents in Dhemji, Dhubri and Nagaon districts.
Including this, around 52 people lost their lives this year due to floods. And approximately, 17.43 lakh people have been affected this year in the various districts. At Kaziranga National park, 62% of the land is under water. Across the state, 14,18,043 animals and poultry farms have been affected.
The area which is affected mostly is South Salmara, where over 3 lakh people are suffering.
Authorities are running 363 relief camps and distribution centres in 19 districts and 25000 people have taken shelter in these camps.
The government has distributed 2,903 quintals of rice, 597 quintals of pulses, 368 quintals of salts and 480 litres of mustard oil among the flood victims.
Many roads, embankments and bridges have been damaged by floods in many areas.
