We are the resident of such an era where the Rape cases became very much common. Every day or the other, we hear about a rape victim. But the most recent one gave chills down our spines. If you haven’t logged into your Facebook account or haven’t seen the news, well, this time, an old case has emerged from the Heaven Of North-India viz. Jammu and Kashmir.

A mere 8-year-old girl named Asifa Bano was confined to a temple for eight days, drugged,  repeatedly gang-raped by 6men, after which the culprits killed her with a stone and threw her body onto the streets. If the internet sources are to be believed then, the caretaker of the Devisthan, a small temple, in Rassana village in Kathua, about 90 km from here, as the main convict behind the abduction, rape, and killing. The Rapists raped Asifa in a Temple! Pretty much hard to believe. In India, we worship Goddesses. We believe that they will protect us. But amidst all the festivals. We forget to respect the girls. I don’t believe that Asifa deserved that. It was that time of her life where she would have enjoyed her childhood and not be a victim of a heinous crime like rape.

The 8-year-old had gone missing on 10th January after she went back into the jungle to bring the horses back home. Two days later, on 12 January, the family filed a police complaint. But, according to Mr. Pujwala, the police were not helpful. One of the police officers, he alleges, said Asifa must have “eloped” with a boy. On 17th January, Asifa’s body was found with broken legs, black nails and several black and blue injury marks. Six days, later Mehbooba Mufti, CM of Jammu and Kashmir ordered an investigation by the crime branch.

The charge sheet filed after the investigation stated that she was “raped for several days, tortured and then finally murdered”. Sanji Ram, a 60-year-old retired government officer, allegedly planned the crime with the help of police officers Surender Verma, Anand Dutta, Tilak Raj and Mr. Khajuria.Mr. Ram’s son, Vishal, his nephew, a juvenile, and his friend, Parvesh Kumar, are also accused of the rape and murder. The four policemen in the case were accused of “destroying evidence.”  The charge sheet filed by the investigators is enough to make you shiver of fear.

While we were trying to overcome this, another rape case emerges in UP, where An 18-year-old girl had been allegedly raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Senger and his brother, after the victim was confined to a hotel room.  Many controversies started evolving when the accused MLA staged a false surrender at Lucknow SSP’s house late night and the police are referring to him as “respected MLA”

Many protests and marches are organized into providing to the little Asifa. Twitterati seems to have no mercy for the culprits and the feeds are flooding with tweets filled with the outrages and demands of quick justice. Richa Chaddha took to Twitter and expressed her views in a tweet where she states that BJP governments “#BetiBachao” to “#Betihumsehibachao”.

Author’s note- I strongly condemn such heinous crimes. We in no way support the granting of bails to the rapists, be it a minor or an adult, if one is accused he must be hanged to death. There’s no other crime as disgusting as Rape. It’s just equal to kill a girl’s soul while she only lives a life with the least support. A rape victim is never adopted warm-heartedly by our society. This thinking also needs to be changed.  Let us come together again, just the way we did some years back after the Nirbhaya case. Let’s come together and try change the society bit by bit and transform this place into a heavenly abode.  What are your views in this regard? Do let me know in the comments.
